You Say Sfumato...

You Say Sfumato...

Derived from the Italian word sfumare, meaning “to tone down” or “to evaporate like smoke,” sfumato is a technique in painting that softens the transitions between different colors. The effect is a smoked out, highly blended quality, like a soft defocusing. Here, in the exquisitely moody Florentine home of creatives Silvia Mazzoli and Gianni Guastella the quality appears in full effect. Tonal and subdued, the home keeps its dusky, muted color palette dynamic with bold and sculptural furniture pieces. Rhythm and Rhyme

Rhythm and Rhyme

Feeling very inspired by the warmth and depth of this Olasky & Sinsteden-designed tableau. The pair of bold bronze midcentury sculptures are softened by the adjacent set of handsome 19th century English chairs, while the wall of salon style art creates a playful, personal feeling. Get the look with similar items from Lee Stanton by clicking through the gallery below.

Sunny and serene, the latest project by Guadalajara-based design firm Aagnes celebrates the home's incredible natural surrounding forest. Repeating wood accents and a theatric use of natural light give the Jalisco residence a feeling of rustic grace. Get the look with similar items from Lee Stanton by shopping the galleries below.

DOLCE FAR NIENTE

DOLCE FAR NIENTE

Or, the sweetness of doing nothing. The charming Italian expression seems to have been a guiding principle in the conception of this 2008 Sicilian home. Spare and minimal yet with a relaxed warmth all its own, the home expertly blends contemporary furnishings with a selection of antique finds. The result is proof that sometimes less really is more. Endless Summer

Endless Summer

I love the elevated, bohemian surf shack feeling that defines Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch's Montauk bungalow. The Roman and Williams designers' beachside getaway, aptly christened Sea Ranch, has an inviting, lived-in feeling, full of character and layers of warmth. Get the look with similar items from Lee Stanton by shopping the galleries below.

I'm loving the 1970s Italian chic of legendary designer Lino Sabattini's Bregnano home. Cool, clean and considered, the space has an arty minimalism that continues to feel fresh and relevant today. Get the look with similar items from Lee Stanton by shopping the galleries below.
