BL24 | Seascape Painting
This mercurial oil on canvas seascape by Orkney Islands painter Ian Scott (b. 1940) shows a characteristic degree of abstraction and emotive vibrancy. Smoky grays are offset against stormy yellows and the bright shimmer of an almost platinum white.
A student of Leo Clegg's at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Scott received the Royal School of Art's prestigious Latimer Award in 1965, and its Benno Schotz Prize in 1966. He was made an RBS fellow in 1972, exhibiting internationally, as well as in solo shows, including at the Scottish Arts Council, Oxford University, and the Graves Gallery in Sheffield.
